When the idea for the Creative Capsule was born, we focused in on children as our primary customer. We envisioned kids crafting up a storm, providing them with new hand’s on arts experiences and chances for them to get messy, creative, and make something completely their own. Family lives are busy these days, and as parents ourselves, we know all too well how difficult it is-and how much energy it takes- to think up a craft project, gather the necessary materials, and maybe hardest of all, turn your child loose to follow their whims and create something. It’s a messy business, this creativity stuff, and sometimes as parents it’s easy to want to skip all the trouble. We really believe the Creative Capsule is the perfect antidote to this. We take the trouble out of creativity for parents and turn it into something they can let their kids happily experience. Best of all? You never had to set foot in one of the god awful craft stores in town and the mess stays inside with us! Total win-win.
The funny thing is that all of the problems just listed above also apply to adults. Just because your age may be in the double digits doesn’t mean you’ve lost your love of making things and being creative, right? Actually it feels like our culture is saturated right now with an interest and resurgence in adults hand crafting items for themselves, for the home, for gifts. Etsy, Pinterest, Craftgawker…there have never been more resources for those with a love or curiosity for making things. The DIY spirit is very much alive and well here in SLC and because of this we are seeing so many grown ups interested in what we do and wanting to get in on the Capsule fun. It’s been an unexpected and very lovely twist to our original business concept, but we are pleased to be doing more and more craft workshops and parties with adults. We’ve now done baby showers and some great holiday craft workshops all geared toward creating projects that appeal to adults. We are very inspired by the age old sewing bee or quilting bee concept where women gathered together to complete large scale craft projects. Watching a group of women come together inside the cozy Capsule and listening to them chat, laugh, and share while they create something unique is simply magic. A modern, Capsule size craft bee. Now that it’s happening, it feels like just what we had in mind…..
