Being the Creative Capsule, it goes without saying that much of our job involves being creatively engaged. We spend a lot of energy day dreaming about craft and party ideas and searching the web for inspiration so that we can continue to improve what we do and keep things fresh. One of our first birthday party craft ideas was to create a pair of fairy wings that weren’t your typical “disney-ified’ version all covered in glitter and sequins and usually very cheesy. We had also noticed how often fairy wings sold in stores are stiff and uncomfortable and unwieldy for kids to actually wear-how very un-fairy!
So we set out to improve on this and create a wing design that would be wearable, soft, and harken back to the true roots of fairies as keepers and protecters of Nature. A little less glitz and a little more woodland forest is what we had in mind. What we came up with in collaboration with some very smart seamstresses we are lucky to know (Thanks, Michelle! Thanks, Monica!) is a floppy felt version, one that is comfortable, sweet, and simple enough to handle some hand’s on embellishment from the kids who attend our Capsule parties. The blank wings invite decoration so we offer ribbon, flowers, leaves, and of course a few sequins, to all our little fairies so they can customize their own pair. We also have them decorate their own lovely tulle pouf wands as well. Once they’ve finished they are eager to put on their wings and flit around, wands in hand, creating just the kind of fairy magic we imagined.
Our super fabulous FAIRY party is perfect for little girls age 3 to 7, our base party is $225 for up to 8 kids, but additional children up to 12 can be easily accommodated for an additional charge. We are also pleased to sell our fairy wings, wands, and embellishments in a single DIY fairy kit for $25.
